Description

A series of universal, high performance, rust inhibitive primers for use under most topcoats, including: 2 component polyurethanes, epoxies, lacquers as well as most other oleoresinous systems. Can be used as a tiecoat over existing paint in sound conditions.

Prominent Features
  • ASTM B117 Salt Spray 1000 hours - 1/2" creep at scribe - slight blister
  • ASTM 3359 Cross-Hatch Aluminum, Galvanized & cold rolled steel - 5
  • Dry Heat Resistance - 225°F continuous, 250°F intermittent
Uses

Structural Steel, Bridges, and Marine.

Limitations

Do not apply when temperature is below 50° F or when rain is expected. Most high gloss enamels become slippery when wet. To ensure maximum safety on horizontal surfaces, a small amount of sand or pumice may be added to give coating nonskid characteristics. Not for immersion.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces must be sound, dry, clean, and free of oil, grease, dirt, mildew, form release agents, curing compounds, loose and flaking paint and other foreign substances.

NEW SURFACES:
STEEL -For best results, abrasive blast to a commercial blast [SSPC-SP-6]. For mild conditions, a hand or power tool cleaning SSPC-SP-2] may be satisfactory, but performance is dependent on the degree of cleaning.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES:
Wash and rinse any areas that may have oil or grease residue. Dull glossy areas by light sanding. Remove sanding dust. Remove loose paint. All areas that are rusting, blistering, cracking or peeling must be cleaned to bare metal. If more than 25% of the surface is involved, sandblast the entire surface to a commercial blast and prime. If less than 25% of the surface is involved, clean soiled areas and spot prime.

Application

Stir thoroughly before using. Apply with brush, roller or spray. Do not thin if doing so would result in exceeding VOC limitations. Roll with 1/2" lambs wool or 1/4" - 1/2" synthetic roller cover.

Airless Spray settings @ 77º:
Tip Size: .015 - .019
Atomization Pressure: 1000-1500 psi

May be force dried at up to 140ºF. Dries to touch in 6 hours. May be put into service after 12 hours. Recoatable in 16 - 24 hours.
